SQUARESPACE SEO FOR BEGINNERS
Hello there, savvy entrepreneur!! Are you a little curious about SEO? Let’s dive into the very basics of it together by answering some preliminary questions:
“What is SEO???”
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO helps your website be visible to and ranked well for search engines such as Google.
“Why does SEO matter?”
When your site has great SEO, search engines will list your website higher when someone searches for something related to your business. This in turn will increase your website traffic, thus increasing your revenue. That’s why SEO is so important!
“I’m a Squarespace newbie, can I still do my website’s SEO on my own?”
Yes! Squarespace is very user-friendly for those managing their own website who want to improve their SEO. They have built-in SEO features and plenty of helpful articles and videos to walk you through setting up your site’s SEO. However, SEO can still be pretty overwhelming so we recommend downloading our SEO Best Practices Guide so you can have someone walk you through each step of setting up your SEO!
Now let’s cover four basic principles of SEO:
1.🗝️Keywords
Keywords are words that match the search terms your ideal clients use to find websites like yours. You should use keywords strategically to improve your site’s SEO. Keywords should be incorporated into the wording on your website, your image alt-text and file names, and your website and page SEO titles and descriptions.
2.🧪A Perfect Mix
Good SEO requires both strategic backend settings as well as improving the user-experience of your website. Your site will be shown to visitors more often if search engines think you have helpful information, up-to date content, and accessibility-friendly design.
3.🏃♀️Speed
Images can take up a lot of space in your website which impacts the load speed of your website. We recommend you upload images to your website that are less than 1MB in file size. To decrease an image’s size before uploading it, use free tools like CompressJPEG.com. Also make sure to clean up your Squarespace Asset Library.
4.🔎Google
As Google is the main search engine people use, we need to make sure you will be easily found on it! You should connect your website/business to the following Google products: Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Google Business.
